Jeno Jando

Is Jeno Jando an excellent pianist? I don't know very much about him but i have heard some of his CDs most of them were good but his trills were not very clear AND THEY CERTAINLY CAN'T COMPARE TO VLaDIMIR HOROWITZ. Can someone sned some information about him.

He's not that great. everything he plays tends to sound alike, and he always sounds like he's in a big hurry. His newer recordings are better than his old ones, though. For an all around type of pianist I'd reccommend Murray Periha. However, it's better to find specific pianists for specicfic pieces. It's more quality that way because one pianist can't be good at everything.

 

He isn't really the top class I think, but he is a quite good pianist who has always been underestimated I think. He has recorded really a lot of pieces, so many are be not as good as the others. If he has concentrated on a certain amount of pieces, he would be better.

It's obvious that he is not that good as Horowitz, but that doesn't make him a bad pianist.

On the other hand, his recordings are much cheaper than Horowitz's, and not many people have recorded the complete Haydn Sonatas for example, so it's usually worth buying.

 

Do you think any of the pianists on this site are better than Jeno Jando?

I always liked yundi lee much more than lang lang because he has something that lang lang hasn't got.

He's really great but there are so much great pianist. You can't see trough the trees the forest anymore.

 

I think Jenö Jando is great. There are so many great pianists which are either underestimated or just unknown to a greater public. Whether it can be said that pianist X is better than pianist Y, I don't know. Art cannot be rated objectively. But I'm sure there are thousands of Lang Langs and Yundi Lis out there, young pianists with tremendous talent. Just because some are hyped by the recording industry and others are not does not mean anything. No one can tell me that the top selling classical piano albums are those of these superstars just because everybody recognizes them as such extraordinary talents. Of course not. The recordings are bought, because the recording label says: This is the new superstar ! -- That's the secret.

 

One thing's for sure: he does a good Liszt!

Well, Jando's execution of Liszt is beyond outstanding. I have his Etudes and Rhapsodies from Naxos and also the three "Annees de Pelerinage" CD's from the same label. Each one is a masterful interpretation, better than most I've heard. His Dante Sonata, Valley of Obermann, Il Penseroso, and Petrarch Sonneto's are the highlights. His take on the HR's and Transcendental Etudes are also noteworthy.

Bearing in mind that I haven't heard his recordings of Beethoven or any other composer, he may come up short there; I don't know. But I do know that he is one of the best Liszt performers out there, some of his recordings beat Howard and Bolet completely.

Well, I have one CD where he plays four of Mozart's Sonatas, and I really enjoyed it. Otherwise, I have a CD with the sonatas "Moonlight", "Pathetique" and "Apassionata". Sometimes, heplayes very fine, but sometimes, his technique fails, specially in quick chords. I like him, but, no one cn be good in everything.... And he's getting better! :wink:

I agree with the notion that Jando is a great pianist, however he is not amongs the greatest. His Liszt Years of Pilgrimage (sorry I do not know the french name) are outstanding, so are his Beethoven-Liszt transcriptions. Generally Jando executes Liszt's pieces very well and are worthy of a standing ovation. But once you get into Haydn and others he settles down into a "good pianist"

 

I don't know that much about Jeno Jando, but his interpretation of Beethoven's Pathetique isn't that good. In my opinion. And I must say I'm very very sensitive when speaking of Pathetique, it's my favorite sonata. Still, his performance of Appasionata is excellent. Much better then Gazarov's or, I dare to say, Brendel's.

 

I have a recording of him playing Liszt's transcendental etudes, and while a couple of them are less than appealing (No. 2 is a favorite of mine but he obviously butchers it), the rest are fairly awesome. His recording of Harmonies du Soir is one of my favorites.

In general the dude's obviously got his chops up. I have a lot of respect for anyone that can play music and make it sound beautiful, and he's managed to do that for me.

Jeno's interpretations of Mozart's Piano Concerti are excellent, but not genius. Some of the movements are, though. (like 20 Mvmt. 3)
