Horowitz is said to have played Rachmaninoff s music better than the composer himself. Yet, he did not record the beloved Piano concerto Number 2 but I have read that he had learned it while he was studying the in the conservatory, and his rhapsody on a theme by Paganini. IS there any explanation for this?

That was said by Rachmaninov himself. And as we all know Rachmaninov was in a position when he could say anything he wanted.

Horowitz had tremendous repertoire. Unfortunately, he recorded (or even performed) only very small part of it.
