I was watching the documentary Glenn Gould: Genius Within and was wondering what the name of one of the pieces played in it was. It's the first piece played in the following video during the beach scene. It's played in the background while Cornelia Foss talks about the last time she saw Glenn. http://youtu.be/AZd7aKTD0eE?t=28s If someone knows the name or composer of this, I'd be very happy!! Looked all over for it and couldn't find it. Thank you!
Hi and welcome, Mahlerian! To me it sounds like an abbreviated version of Chopin's nocturne op. 55 no.1.
It's an excerpt from Brahms' Intermezzo Op.76 no.7. Indeed the theme is vaguely reminiscent of Chopin's Nocturne.
Nope, I meant the first of his 5 Studies, where he devilishly reworks Chopin's Op,25.2 for sixths and thirds. A truly scary piece.
