For the administrators: This book (by James Parakilas and others) is discussed a little on a recent thread on this board. I recently finished reading it and was so impressed that I'm writing a review of the book. Would such a book review be suitable for the "Publications" area of the Society site? If so, how does one go about submitting that? If it is, I'll work on the review until I think it's "publishable". If not, I'll just put the first draft into a comment on the above-referenced thread. It's not long - 500 words without the usual book references - and I would try to keep reworks under 1000 words. Of course, if it's judged "not publishable", I'll still just add it as a comment on that thread. Thanks.
I think that's a great idea, Stu. I just perused the publications we already have and they are all important documents, very detailed, and well-written. Still, it's nice if members want to contribute and enhance the site. We can make a sub-topic of "Book Reviews" under Publications, and then list specific reviews....like the one from you. You won't be able to upload a document yourself though; you will have to send it to one of us admins and we'll put it up like we do everything else (if it's up to PS standards, of course... ). Let's see if either of the other admins have anything to say before we go ahead with this....
Ok, Stu, we're set to go ahead with this idea. When you are ready, you can send me your document and I'll put it on the main site.
For anyone interested in reading a good piano book - Stu has kindly written a nice review of the book, "Piano Roles". You can read the review here: http://server3.pianosociety.com/cms/ind ... ction=3205
Thanks, all. It's definitely something to check out from the library before buying - probably kind of pricey (though available mostly in paperback now) and pretty large.
