Not that it matters. I've listened to several of his recordings at the Sultanov site but this was my first hearing of this. The finish and beauty of his playing is unbelievable, he never makes an ugly sound. I didn't even hear the string break. And of course his technique is flawless. I think one of the things about him that's notable is that while his technique is effortless (or seems to be) he never uses it just to show off, although the playing is "flashy" with all the allure of a virtuoso technique he isn't showing off, he is there for the music. In this respect he reminds me of another brilliant pianist who died too soon, William Kapell.

I'll be listening to more Sultanov and will post my impressions here...

Just listened to the "Mozart Conzert 28 Rondo" (had never heard it before, I assume it's an independent concert rondo not a concerto movement) at the recitals website. This is excellent playing for a mature artist, let alone a 7 year old. :shock: 8)

Here is a link to to his obituary in the Washington Post. This is a rather sad story imo. Says a lot about the piano competition business also; I will be listening to more of his performances, and see if the comments of certain critics and competition officials are borne out by them. But somehow, I don't think they will be. :wink:
