I heard this pianist perform the Beethoven 5th the other night in Yakima, Washington. Very musical, solid technique. Recent competition winner. Young (31, I think). My only complaints: Could have taken a few more liberties (and I'm sure he will as he gets his feet wet), and he played it very safe technically, not taking many chances (nor would I in his position). I'm sure the latter will also be solved in a couple of years as he gains confidence. Of course, the flip side of this was that his performance was very accurate - probably very important at the beginning of a career. Hope I get to hear him again in a few years.
