Sonatas
Mozart's piano sonatas form a richly diverse and significant part of his instrumental output and span much of his mature composing career, thereby representing a microcosm of the composer's changing style. Due to the research of the past decades, the works have been precisely dated and classified. Source studies show that many a printed edition of the 18th century is of greater source value than Mozart's manuscript because many works were prepared for printing by the composer himself and therefore provided with precise practical performance instructions on ornamentation, dynamics and articulation. In addition, there are sources which have become available again only at the end of the 20th century enough reasons to re-edit Mozart's piano sonatas in the Wiener Urtext Edition.
