Gan, Wu-Ming

Hailing from Malaysia, Wui-Ming Gan's affinity for music was discovered at an early age, placing him in a program for gifted young musicians at the Yamaha School of Music. He spent much of his youth playing and composing music in a variety of styles, and his penchant for musical diversity continues to this day.

In 2001, Wui-Ming won First Prize at the National Piano Festival in Malaysia, as well as a special prize for the best performance of the commissioned piece, earning him a concert tour around his motherland. The same year, he was awarded the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (U.K.) in piano performance with distinction. He was a finalist at both the Vladimir Krainev (Ukraine, 2000) and Ettlingen (Germany, 2002) International Competitions for Young Pianists, where his own "Two Preludes" were received with much enthusiasm.

Wui-Ming now studies piano performance with Melvin Chen at the Bard College Conservatory of Music (New York), where he is simultaneously pursuing an undergraduate degree in mathematics. He is also an active member of the Bard Musical Theater Company, and regularly plays jazz and rock music for leisure.
