I started playing the piano at four, passed the ABRSM Advanced Certificate at 16 and (unsurprisingly) failed a performance diploma at 18. I was lucky enough to be introduced to accompanying choirs as a teenager, and to share a house with some excellent musicians at university ‒ that and the general scarcity of accompanists kept me playing regularly into my mid-twenties. I also sang a bit, quietly.

After that there was a pause for a few years while I tried to cope with being a junior doctor, but things picked up again around 2003-07 when I also took some private lessons with John York in London. Since then I've occasionally been called upon to play in piano quintets (see below), but otherwise haven't played again seriously until this year. Hopefully I can keep up the momentum!

    My repertoire includes the following:
current-ish Albéniz Iberia (Evocación, El Puerto, El Albaicín), Fauré Nocturne no 6 op 63, Debussy Préludes (most of book 2, some of book 1), Messiaen Le traquet rieur from Catalogue d’oiseaux, two Mozart sonatas (F major KV533/494 and C minor KV475/457), three Chopin études (10/12, 25/7, 25/12), parts of Sarnia by John Ireland
previous Bach WTC/1 E flat minor, Beethoven sonata op. 28 ‘Pastoral’, Brahms Rhapsodies op. 79 and Intermezzos op. 117, Gershwin Preludes for Piano, Poulenc Trois Pièces, Schubert Impromptu D935/3
accompaniment various songs by Britten, Butterworth, Duparc, Fauré, Finzi, Messiaen, Poulenc, Schubert, Richard Strauss, etc.; Brahms clarinet sonata op 120, Poulenc clarinet sonata, Franck violin sonata, Walter Leigh recorder sonatina
chamber the piano quintets by Dvořák, Franck, Brahms and Shostakovich, piano trios by Rachmaninov (both) and Mozart (C major KV548), and the horn trio by Lennox Berkeley

    recordings:
Albeniz - Iberia - El Albaicin, book III
Debussy- Preludes, no. 4, book II
Ireland- Sarnia, no. 3, Song of the Spring Tides
Chopin- Etude, op. 10, no. 12, Revolutionary
Chopin- Etude, op. 25, no. 7
Chopin- Etude, op. 25, no. 12
