These four toccatas by Domenico Zipoli (1688-1726) are from Book I of his Sonate d'Intavolature per Organo e Cembalo, written in 1716. They are popular works with organists. Zipoli - Toccata all' Elevazione in F major ( 2:46 ) Zipoli - Toccata al post Communio in F major ( 1:52 ) Zipoli - Toccata all' Elevazione in C major ( 2:41 ) Zipoli - Toccata all' Offertorio in C major ( 1:50 ) Also, two more psalm settings, each with a short postlude improvised on the spot. Only 147 to go now Psalm 1 (Blessed is the man) ( 2:22 ) Psalm 23 (The Lord is my Shepherd) ( 2:32 )
Phew, I wanted to have found a bit time earlier to listen to these pieces, but there is so much to do at this time. We would like to start a new guitar-class at school next year and I have to prepare a lot. I didn´t know these pieces, if I´m honest, so it was interesting to meet them. I have an askew neck now, because the score I found on imslp.org was scanned lying on the side, so I had to turn around my head all the time. But have my sincere congratulations to these beautiful recordings. I can´t find anything to mention here to improve. These recordings are splendid! I think you changed the last two movements in their order, isn´t it?! But that doesn´t matter. I also have enjoyed the two psalms very much and I´m attending the next 147 with big curiosity. :!:  Thanks for these interesting pieces! BTW, I have a good message: yesterday we have booked our summer-holidays. I´ll be at the same location like last year.
Thank you ! I did my best for them. They are quite easy of course. Should they be the other way around then ? I am not sure. This was how they sat in my binder I am not going to post these, as they are of very limited interest here. I just add them to the Psalms page. Maybe they can be of interest to someone out there. There's 10 of them now. Good ! Maybe we can arrange something like last year again. In any case I can bring my own board now - need to think about a new sail though.

It will be a great pleasure to play some more Slavonic Dances by Dvorak and to do some "surfing-sessions"! I´ll write you a private message soon. (In this moment I´m so busy, that I don´t know anymore, where is my head. :x That´s the only reason, why I haven´t post a recording in the last time. I simply don´t find any time to practise at this time.)
Hi Chris, I just listened to the Zipoli Baroque organ toccatas you posted here. First time I had ever heard these beautiful works. I thought your playing was excellent! The psalms are well played too, but for pure musical content I prefer the Zipoli pieces. I'm curious how you select your organ repertoire apart from level of difficulty. In the world of piano we have a grasp of the "standard repertoire"; wonderful repertoire guides for looking up lesser-known composers; we might hear something inspiring on a CD, radio broadcast, video or at a recital; or find a gold nugget of a score in a music store or IMSLP; or get a recommendation from a teacher or another pianist--here at Piano Society, for example. Is the repertoire search pretty much the same in the organ realm or different in some ways? You do a great job in finding interesting pieces to present here. David
Thanks David ! I'm glad some people here enjoy these pieces. Zipoli was a tip from one of my fellow organists. Obviously we are always looking for shortish, not too difficult pieces that can be played before or during a service. I've now also acquired the popular Peters collection of 80 chorale preludes by old German masters, and will be recording pieces from that, in addition to my ongoing exploration of Bach, Buxtehude, Pachelbel, and Walther. Can't wait till my piano is tuned again though.......
