I want to start with my first piano concerto which one should I choose?

I would most definifitely recommend the Ravel Piano Concerto in G major.

Of course, you could always work on something by Beethoven or Mozart.

Probably. But I still very much recommend the Ravel.

The Gershwin Piano Concerto is a good start as well. Depends on your skills though.

Do a Beethoven concerto for your first concerto. Actually, Beethoven's first concerto may seem easy, but to make it clean and rhythmically precise can actaully be difficult. You have to approach it in a different way from Rachmaninov, for ex.

For the Beethoven, I'm not quite sure. I'm not quite familiar with Beethoven concertos.

But you don't like Ravel? Maybe take a listen to the Piano Concerto (the G major, not the left hand one, because that one is a complete monster). It's a bit different, but it's very impressive for both the piano and the orchestra, and it's not too difficult to learn.

Go for something not overplayed and not too difficult, like Rachmaninov.

 

haha I don't want to learn the rachmaninoff concerto's for now they are monsters that's what I like about rachmaninoff

has anyone a recording of the concerto of ravel?

 

Right now I am learning J.S. Bach's BWV 1052 Concerto in d minor. Have you ever heard this one? It's quite simple, with some nice effects, if I indeed learn it, it will be my first. Does anyone have anything to offer about this concerto? There is a competition at my school next semester, I find this the perfect concerto. Oh but it should be known, I am only learning the first movement. Fortunately this is all the competition requires.

Beethoven 1, Grieg, Ravel G major, or a Mozart concerto (e.g. no. 9, 20, 21, 23, 25, 27 just to name some).

Or Bach d minor or any other. Or Haydn D major (no. 11). That's probably the easiest, after some of the easier Mozart.

 

Hmm...I would say the Mozart No. 9 in Eb Major (someone mentioned that above). Or perhaps the Bach No. 5 in F minor. Actually, any of the Bach concerti I think would be good. The choice is yours! Good luck.

 

Mozart KV 414 A-major, this one is very short, or maybe Prokofieffs first one, these are the ones I startet with. You could also have a look at Scriabin's, but i have to admit, I do not really know this one.

 

My teacher just let me start on my first concerto. Mozart K. 415 in C major (no. 13). It's probably one of the easier Mozart Concertos.

 

I would very much recommend: any concerto by Brahms, Chopin in Em, or the ever famous Tchaikovsky Concerto No.1 thats my favorite one!

 

I just saw Tchaikovsky's First performed Friday evening. I know, it's performed all of the time :wink:. But I still love it.

 

Isn't that too hard for a beginner? Especially Tchaikovsky 1 is really hard.
