Hi there, I am working on op42. Is this so called the Cat waltze?? He was influced by his own pets-cat. And op64 no1-minute waltze-called the dog waltze? Please expain. Thanks
I've never heard anything about a "cat" waltz before. The other waltz, the minute waltz: If I recall correctly, Chopin wrote this one after he watched his dog chase its own tail around in circles. It's not supposed to have anything to do with being played in a minute.
thanks, I agree with the op64 no1. If you listened to op42. Does it sound like the cat is jumping up and down - the first two pages.
The "Minute Waltz" as you refer op.64 no.1 is the dog waltz, suggestion a dog chasing his tail. The Cat Waltz is op.34 no.3 in F major from Chopin watching his cats playing around in his apartment in Paris. At least that is how the story goes.
The "dog waltz" is op. 64 no. 1 (also called "Minute"). The "cat waltz" is op. 34 no. 3. They were both inspired by animals running over the keyboard, I believe. They sound quite funny, unlike Scarlatti's "cat fugue". Scarlatti must have had a cat who could run over the keyboard and play nice melodies  .
