    Hi there, I am working on op42. Is this so called the Cat waltze?? He was influced by his own pets-cat.

    And op64 no1-minute waltze-called the dog waltze?

    Please expain.

    I've never heard anything about a "cat" waltz before. The other waltz, the minute waltz: If I recall correctly, Chopin wrote this one after he watched his dog chase its own tail around in circles. It's not supposed to have anything to do with being played in a minute.

    thanks, I agree with the op64 no1. If you listened to op42. Does it sound like the cat is jumping up and down - the first two pages.

    The "Minute Waltz" as you refer op.64 no.1 is the dog waltz, suggestion a dog chasing his tail. The Cat Waltz is op.34 no.3 in F major from Chopin watching his cats playing around in his apartment in Paris. At least that is how the story goes.

    thanks very much. so its op34 no3. Hummm I have to lean an extra peice in conjuction with op42.

    The "dog waltz" is op. 64 no. 1 (also called "Minute").
    The "cat waltz" is op. 34 no. 3.

    They were both inspired by animals running over the keyboard, I believe. They sound quite funny, unlike Scarlatti's "cat fugue". Scarlatti must have had a cat who could run over the keyboard and play nice melodies :lol: .

    oh, i was pretty sure that the "cat waltz" was op. 64, no. 2 in c# minor, but i'm probably wrong
