I use Sibelius 5 to do my compositions. Obviously composition software costs a fair bit. But the school pays for it and you can copy their Cd and download a registration crack. At the moment i just finished my piano composition L'Amore ( a cliche name but meh) And shall upload it once its been marked anyway do you use any programs for yours???
I use MidiNotate Composer, which I think is fairly acceptable for someone who doesn't compose all that much. I use it when arranging for my recorder ensemble that I'm directing and for compositions for school; it seems to do all right. I've heard that Sibelius is better all-around, however.
I use Capella 2002 software. I like it because you can add notes through mouse-piano  The computer-instruments sounds bad but I like it that it can play the most freaky rhythms correctly  Atin
I use LilyPond. Takes a little getting used to at first, but then entering notes becomes quite fast, and the output looks great. Plus it's free. Sibelius and Finale both gave me fits trying to score the sort of voices that come and go in piano writing. LilyPond makes this extremely easy and that (and the free) was enough to make me a convert.
