Back when I was in my 'Chopin period', must have been around 1970 or so, Tamas Vasary was Deutsche Gramophon Gesellschaft 's star pianist who recorded a lot of Chopin and Liszt for them. I have a number of these LP's and they are very good for the time. He also recorded some Debussy and Rachmaninov later. An extremely reliable if not always very individual pianist, apparently with enormous hands. He seems to have anjoyed a modest career as a conductor since then, I have one CD where he directs works by Respighi, and that is very well done too.

I was very lucky to sit and listen to his Piano Masterclass during "Lisztomania" on 8th March 2011 at the Royal College of Music
and I am very impressed by his wonderful soft touch, his musical explanations and his love for music.
He was born on August 11th 1933 in Debrecen, Hungary and made his debut at the age of eight.
