This is not my usual kind of recording and I wasn’t going to put it up on the site, but maybe I will... It’s a rag piece composed by a very obscure composer and I don’t usually play rags. I learned this piece because my father wanted me to because his mother used to play this piece when he was young (I think he liked the title :) ). He has a recording of her playing it when she was in her 80’s and he requested that I record the piece too. I’m sure no one here has ever heard of Will Livernash and there is very little information about him. The Georgia Giggle was written in 1918, so at least that’s a little something….

    Hi Monica,

Sometimes I like it when you don't just post the usual :) I had a listen to this, it is incredibly catchy and I think (like another facebook friend of yours) the tempo you play this at just as it should be. This is a good introduction to this composer, I think my first piece I've heard of his. It might even be the next best rag after "The Entertainer" which begs the question, did the composer ever consider "The Giggler" as an alternative title? :p

Thanks for sharing, look forward to the Mp3 to add to my collection.

    Thank you, Riley!
I remember hearing an expert on rags say that people often play Joplin's rags too fast. And most people play them fast just to show off. It sure doesn't make the music any better though!
    I like the "Giggler".... :)

Quite a tedious and repetitive piece (but I think that about most traditional ragtime so it could just be me). You do very well by it, good tempo and clean execution.

A cute little piece. I was particularly impressed by your consistent light touch and clear voicing (not always heard in rag). What's a "giggle", does it have any meaning beyond the usual?

    Thank you, Joachim!
No, there is no other meaning for 'giggle' that I know of. I do giggle a lot though.... :)

    Hi Monica,

For someone who says they never played rag before, your rendition here is nothing less than marvelous. And although I don't know the music, to me it sounds flawless. Great playing!
