Sorry for posting so much recently. I blame the awful weather... It being incessantly grey, cold, wet and windy, it seemed the best idea to sit inside once more and get rid of some of my recording backlog. I like these Balkan Dances by the Croatian composer Marko Tajčević. The Balkans are a scary region but its music is fascinating. The last one has a couple of slips and may need to be redone.

    Tajcevic - Balkan Dances - 1: Con moto (1:55)
    Tajcevic - Balkan Dances - 2: Rustico (1:51)
    Tajcevic - Balkan Dances - 3: Vivo (0:56)
    Tajcevic - Balkan Dances - 4: Sostenuto e cantabile (2:26)
    Tajcevic - Balkan Dances - 5: Allegro ritmico (1:12)
    Tajcevic - Balkan Dances - 6: Allegretto (0:50)
Tajcevic - Balkan Dances - 7: Allegro quasi pesante (1:20)

    Hi Chris,

I'm surprised that nobody has commented yet. I listened to all of these pieces from the former Yugoslavia. They definitely have that distinctive Eastern European sound. Also I cannot imagine that these pieces are easy to play. They are well worth hearing. Thanks for posting them!

Thanks David, glad you like them. I would not claim this is great music, Tajcevic does not develop his material in any way, or provide any contrasting material. They are rather simplistic musically but the composer shrewdly knew how not to go on for too long. They are not especially hard to play but have some technical challenges like all the chord jumps in the last dance.
They're fun pieces that effectively evoke the spirit of the rural Balkans.

Great fun to listen to! Completely new to me. I like the two first and the two last best. In no 4 I didn't really hear a cantabile - the melody is a bit too loud and aggressive - but I have no idea how it is supposed to sound. They don't sound particularly easy to play but with very few exceptions you seem to have them completely in hand and with fine expressive flow. Thanks for posting!
