I recently bought Soulima Stravinky's transcription of Firebird, and I'm studying it. It's better written and even sounds better than than Stravinsky's own transcription. But it does not have the Finale.

So, just for fun, I have recorded a video of the finale, in Stravinky's own transcription.

I intend to post here Soulima's three movements from Firebird **soon**, whatever it means. =D

I don't find this a particularly appealing transcription. The piece does not seem to lend itself well to the piano, maybe that is why Soulima did not do it ? You perform it with much gusto but I don't care for all those clangy chords in the treble. Not sure if it's the piano or your forceful touch, or both.

    Hi Luis,

I had a listen to your recording, I think you do a great job of playing a transcendental-like tremolando, and this is definitely the Stravinsky music I like  . For criticism, I think the limitations of the instrument are apparent, but I still found it enjoyable despite this. Do you plan to record the entire Firebird?

    thanks!

well... Stravinsky's own transcription has lots of problems.
I think it was just a piano reduction he hurried up making for receiving money. In the Infernal Dance, there is a passage with 3 staves, which can't be played with only two hands (when I was studying this version, I would play one of the staves one octave higher than written, otherwise I would need a third hand) and EVEN SO it does not sound good. it's too difficult for too little effect.
it's completely different than the Petroushka piano transcription, which is amazingly written.

Agosti has transcribed the finale, and he completed the score with lots of tremulandi effects. Soulima could have done that if he wanted to. You may be right... maybe Soulima found this Finale sounds too limited in the piano.

oh, no! this is too much work!
I just intend to record Soulima's transcription: Scherzo, Berceuse and Infernal Dance.

    thanks for listening, Riley!
