Schumann - Faschingsschwank aux Wien

Hi all,

Just figured I would try to help fill some more openings on the main site. This is a clip from another live performance and consists of the first movement of Schumann's Faschingsschwank aux Wien Op. 26. I have other movements that I will try to find so that I can post them as well. Please let me know what you think about the performance of this relatively underperformed work.

This is a beautiful live performance. Congratulations! You're right. I've only heard this performed a few times. At first I thought you might be using a little too much pedal, but as I listened I believe it is just the reverb. A very good job!

 

Well done! Live performances always impress me as it is a one-shot event. You handle the piece very well on both a technical and musical level and I really like your phrasing.

Faschingschwank aus Wien, Op. 26 by Robert Schumann is a solo piano work in five movements.

1. Allegro (Sehr Lebhaft)
2. Romance (Ziemlich Langsam)
3. Scherzino
4. Intermezzo (Mit Grösster Energie)
5. Finale (Höchst Lebhaft)

In English, it is known as "Carnival Scenes from Vienna" or "Carnival Jest from Vienna". Faschingsschwank was written in 1839 on Schumann's visit to Vienna. The first four movements were written in the city, and the last on his return to Leipzig.

Thanks for the replies. It's a shame that a lot of Schumann isn't played as much as it probably should be and I'm glad that you were pleasred with the performance.
