I was captivated by your interpretation. I cannot suggest any way of playing this better. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Great and profound playing of this wonderful 1st movement! It was a great pleasure to listen to it. It would be nice, to hear also the to other movements. Any chance you record them?

I'd say it is a solid and workmanlike performance, without really catching Schubert's spirit. Too earthbound, if you wish. It is not especially elegant or inspired, which are qualities a minor Schubert Sonata needs to be convincing. It plods on a bit.

But it's well played apart from a handful of small slips. It can go up the site like this, but I think you'll want to make more of it.

Good job on a piece that is much harder than it sounds! I appreciate it even if your interpretation is quite far from what I remember mine was (a long time ago). In particular I think you overdo tempo variations and rubatos, resulting in a Chopin-like rhythmic flexibility that somehow works against the otherwise sinister music. And do watch out for the trills, not all notes are there.

Francois, you said this was 'work in progress'. Do you want this on the site or will you submit a new version ? Not that this is not good enough, but I am sure you will do better after a few performances. Let us know what you prefer.

Thanks for the feedback. I do not wish for this one to be put on the site for now, I'll see if I can submit a better version by the end of the month. :)

Musicusblau, thanks for your reply. Learning the whole sonata would probably take me another six months, so I don't think I will be doing the other movements anytime soon. I do hope, though, that I can learn them at some point in the coming years. I especially love #2 and #3.

Opps, I read your reply too late and have put it up already . Is it ok that it is up and can be replaced later on? Not that I understand what is wrong with this one as I liked it a lot!

Yes, on a second thought, I don't mind. Could you please also link it from my profile page?

Ever since I recorded it and tried to perfect it for the competition (which is tomorrow, by the way), my playing seems to actually have deteriorated day by day, and now I feel like I'd need another few months to see an actual improvement over last week's version. Very frustrating.

By the way, the actual length is 8:25 (WMP displays it erroneously as 10:09).

    Ok - all fixed.

    Good luck at your competition.
