Hello all! Sorry for a bit of an absence the last little while. I have been in the process of moving, and haven't been able to keep up quite as much as I've enjoyed so far. Nevertheless, I have been debating and have decided to post another live recording - this one of the final two movements of Schubert's piano sonata D. 784. I have the first movement as well, but I don't care for it very much so I'm not going to bother adding it along, lol. Please let me know of your impressions on the performance and, as always, I hope you enjoy! L Schubert - D.784, Piano Sonata in A minor, II. Andante Schubert - D.784, Piano Sonata in A minor, III. Allegro Vivace
A very good, committed, and unabashedly romantic performance, Luke. Some minor slips in the tricky finale but in a live recording, these can hardly be avoided. I understand you going safety first with the concluding bravura octaves, all the same it's a pity to do so as it's a bit of an anticlimax. But to play them up speed is really risky so you probably made the right choice. Was the first movement really bad that you don't let us have it ?
Really good, confident and with wonderful phrasing. A pity that the sound clips during some forte passages but overall very enjoyable to listen to. I have put the 2 movements up and as Chris, wonders what was wrong about the first movement.
Hi guys - many thanks for your reponses. Indeed, it's remarkably difficult to hit all of those 8ves at the end of the allegro viv. I've been thinking (and re-listening yet again) but will submit the first movement as well since it would only make sense. I don't think I've ever let anyone hear it before.. i guess the reason why is because since it's from a live performance there are a couple of slips that i am unhappy with. We'll see what you think. Btw, you said the sound clips in spots? I'll have to take another listen to the uploaded .files
I'm so sorry about that... one of the frustrating things about live performances is the discrepancy in the sound levels - I guess since they had the levels so high, it didn't translate so well when switching the tag (ie. cda to mp3). I'll try to keep an eye on that going forward tho!
