    - I'm not entirely satisfied with no.4.

    - No.1 is my favourite piece out of this opus.

    - Please comment. :)

Sounds nice! You show much feeling without destroying the character of the pieces with exagerated rubatos.
But there is one thing... In No.4, this part which starts at 1:25 sounds nearly completely like a 7/8ths measure for me. I don't know the piece, but maybe here should be a more steady rhythm...?

 Your fourth is great !
I have got the feeling that at some times the first did not walk forward enough? Nevertheless, still very good !

Thank you for your responses! Nelson, I re-checked no.4 now and I can confirm that my rhythm is quite sloppy there. From what I can hear with my bad ears, the quarter notes are mostly too short, producing 7/16 measures. Thanks for reporting this.

As usual, your playing is pleasing, musicianly, and accurate as far as the actual notes are concerned. Some parts, like the trio of the no.1, are really beautifully done.

Your problem is rhythm, though. You seem to have insufficient control about it. You are fine as long as note values are equal, but as soon as combinations occur (like an eigth and two 16ths, or an eight and a triplet, you are in trouble. As a rule, one or more of the faster notes get muffled away and the rhythm is disrupted. This also affects the tempo as you easily get stressed in passages like this. You should be practicing more Bach, where strict tempo must be paired with scrupulous attention to every different note value and duration. I can say from experience that this really helps.

The nr.1 is well done apart from the above problem. The nr.4 is on the whole too lumbering and unsteady, although many things sound great (especially where the hands go together). There is strange LH note at 0:08 and 3:26, which I think is the same read error.

One thing you should try, which could be instructive, is to play these back at half speed or so (using a trial version of Amazing Slowdowner or similar tool) so the rhythmic problems become apparent.

Last advice - never be impatient, lest of all in Schubert. There are some places where you seem to rush to the next phrase, cutting down the natural breathing space between phrases. Not a good thing in this most vocally of composers.

Sorry for all the critique ! Don't think that I think it is all bad. There are many good things here too. And your musicality will eventually win the day.

Thanks for your advice, Chris. But could you be a bit more specific about the rhythm, especially with no.1?

Let's forget no.4 for now, I'll do that again.

Yes I could do Jan-Felix, but you have to learn to listen to yourself with a most critical ear (sorry if that sounds pedantic - it probably is  ). Get a trial of Amazing Slowdowner from the web and listen at half speed, score in hand. I am sure you will get my point. If not I will be happy to explain.

I expected this kind of answer, really. It's okay if you don't want to do it (I know detailed is very time-consuming), but then don't give me orders like "You have to play Bach" or "Practice playing even chords" etc. If you don't want to prove your statements, better stay silent.

These are not orders, just friendly recommendations. You either take them or you don't. No need to get stroppy about it.

He will be back. This place is addicting. There must be a subliminal message/drug flashing out of our computer monitors.
