Thx for article Juuf. Interesting to read about his anti-American views, I'd never heard any of that before. But nonetheless a world character whose individuality was never in question ... just his sanity. :)

Did he have family? I'm sure he'll be missed.

I don't think he had any living family members.

I did tear up a little when I heard this on NPR this morning. I've played through many of his games and they are all (once he hit his stride) characterized by amazing brilliancies. Anatoly Karpov has stated that Bobby Fisher probably would have beaten him if the championship match between them
had occured. It is unfortunate that Kasparov and Fisher never met over the board.

People like Bobby Fisher and Van Cliburn offer perfect examples of the fact that while it is true that the educational system (and parental influence) in the United States is not conducive to the production of towering genius in the arts (yes, good chess is art to some people), when we do
produce exceptional individuals they conquer the world.

And then vanish into thin air
Sorry, could not resist that.... Just coincidence that neither of these fine examples sustained a career to match their initial dazzling triumphs.
