    Arrojado, samba

    Hello Folks,
Today I've recorded the 50th rare Naareth of the series, a milestone which means a lot to me.
It's a samba called "Arrojado" (like "Fancy"), which has never been recorded. Only a couple of his tunes were published as samba, and this ones plays sort of a trick on the listener on part A, because of the phrasing, making it sound quasi-polirrythmic.

    Best wishes,
    Alexandre

Congratulations on hitting the Big Five-O, Alexandre! We are happy to be able to host such a great collection of these rare and unrecorded Nazareth pieces. Probably no other site can match us!

Nice, toe-tapping tune, here, and well-played as usual. It is up on the site.

    Gracietta, polka

    Hello folks,

I've resumed recording the rare Nazareths. Today I recorded his polka "Gracietta", composed when he was 17, and which has never been recorded commercially.

    Best wishes,
    Alexandre

    Iris, waltz

    Dear Folks,
Today I recorded the 52nd rare Nazareth. It's a brillant waltz called Iris, which has never been recorded commercially. He was a master of the waltz form. Hope you like it.

    Best wishes,
    Alexandre

He could have recorded it last year and forgot about it. But odds are, the man lives in the past

And I do agree. Nice playing as always. A complete recording of Nazareth is to be expected from you. Would you be the first person to do such a thing?

    peace,
    -jg

Heheheh, thanks for the reminder Felipe. Glad you like the recording. I tried a more "passionato" approach on this one, following the line (even if distantly) of the 19th century pianists I love such as Moriz Rosenthal.

Juufa, thanks for commenting. It would be a thrill to record everything, and by each music I'm 0.5% closer (since he composed 211 works). And yes, it would be the first time, no one has ever recorded alone more than a third of his works.

    Best wishes,
    Alexandre

Ok, this is up, Alexandre. Nice playing, as usual! And I really liked how you brought back the main theme on that last time.

one thing - please use a lower compression number. We request a kbps number lower than 200. Many of us use 192, which really sounds no different from higher numbers. But higher than 200 makes the file too large and then takes us a long time to download/upload.

I have also deleted your other thread.

    Hi Monica,
I wasn't aware of this request, thanks for telling me. I'll make the next ones in a lower bitrate.

    Thanks,
    Alexandre

Hello everyone. Today I've recorded Nazareth's 53rd rare piece: his polka "A Bela Melusina" (The beautiful Melusine), whose title he probably got from one of Mendelssohns overtures. It's a simple polka, but extremely difficult for its big jumps (and to play "tightly").

    Hope you enjoy.

    Alexandre

    Onze de Maio, quadrilha

Hello Folks, back after 5 months!
The transition of the masters course to the phd course kept me from recording new Nazareths, but I have some good news. I was working on the following project www.ernestonazareth.com.br which, for the first time in history, put together Ernesto Nazareth's entire output. I provided the scores and reviewed everything 4 times (the modern editions are loaded with errors). Original editions and manuscripts were used for the revision. And what's best: everything is for free, pdfs one click away. I'm sure no other composer in Brazil has had this kind of thing done before. Now I hope to see more Nazareth pieces played by piano society members!

Today I recorded the 54th Nazareth, a 'quadrilha' called "Onze de Maio" (May 11th). Quadrilha is a type of dance (in groups), and at the moment I'm not sure how to translate it. It has 5 parts. Nazareth composed 4 quadrilhas, and none has been recorded commercially.

    Best wishes,
    Alexandre

    Hello Alexandre!!!

Quadrilha is a Brazilian dance, a derivative of the European "quadrille", which is also a precursor to the north-american Square dance. So, to my view, while there is no exact translation, you could either call it a Brazilian Quadrille or Brazilian Square Dance.

As always, very nicely played! Are you still using the Kurzweil? This sounds very nice indeed!

    Congratulations,

    Marcelo

    Hi Marcelo!
Thanks for the translation. Brazilian Quadrillhe sounds nice. By the way, I'm positively sure this is an urban dance, performed in the "salons", contrasting to our present-day quadrille, which is played at Junine Parties, reminiscent of the field culture :)

The piano is the Kurzweill Mark 10. (although I have a Kawai kx-21, the digital still offers better recording possibilities).

If ayone wishes to listen looking at the score, it can be viewed here (together with all his other 210 compositions):

    Best wishes,
