    David,

This was very beautiful playing. I like the piece. You conveyed
the intensely emotional, at times brooding, at times assertive
nature. The harmonies and progressions in this piece are compelling
    and interesting.

Thank you for a captivating performance.

    Hi Layla,

I'm glad that you liked this Preludio, Op. 32 in F#m of Eduardo Dutra. It is a lovely and haunting lament. The score came to me by way of the Kline Library in Rio de Janiero to Paris France, to Quebec City in Canada, and to a concert artist in New York City who asked me if I would be interested in having it. The next time he emailed me he was surprised that I had learned and recorded it. That was back in January 2011, so five years ago. How time flies! The matter of Dutra's scores remains a total mystery. We do know that Dutra did not approach any commercial music publisher. Instead whenever he got a request for his sheet music, he would print them off himself and give the printouts to the requester(s). When Dutra died it seems logical that a family member or close friend would have kept all the manuscripts; or, there is the possibility too that the scores were destroyed. Thus we still have a mystery.

Thanks again for listening to my recording! Arnaldo Cohen also recorded this piece. Our two interpretations are quite different from one another.

If you send me your email address to me at daapril@hotmail.com, I'd be glad to send the score to you in pdf format.

    Hi lisztzsil,

Dutra's dedication to Farnesio appears centered and high on the opening first page of music. The main mystery has yet to be solved. It's known that Dutra did not approach the major music publishers in his day. If a musician wanted a copy of a piece, Dutra would personally make the copy himself. When he died, who then had custody of his scores? His wife? A close friend? Or was it destroyed? Perhaps we'll never know for sure.

If you send your email address to me, I'll be glad to send to you the two page score in pdf format.

    David

    Hi ngotham93nd,

It was good hearing you. Thank you for all your kind words. In the Preludio my aim was to create for the composer a rendition that would please him as if he were still alive. In Brazil Arnoldo Cohen also made a recording. To the best of my knowledge my recording was the premier recording in North America. The two versions are quite different, but that's a good thing showing that artists can analyze the score, but can also conjure different imagery, emotions, and sound.

Thanks for taking time to listen to this music!

    David
