Not my favorite Rachmaninov pieces, but very nicely played!

I agree with schmontz that the Op.16 set does not represent the best of Rachmaninov. Having said that, there is much to enjoy in it. Yours is a careful and considered performance although, I think, lacking somewhat in true Rachmaninovian weight and power. It could be partly the instrument (is it an upright ? sure sounds like one) and also the close, in-your-face recording which does not allow the sound to sufficiently breathe and resonate.

In the Presto I missed the sheer drive, power and abandon which this piece needs to keep up the interest (because it is really not as inspired as any of the Preludes or Etudes-Tableaux). You seem a bit careful and literal, more intent on getting the notes right than to paint a bold picture. Of course to do both is a huge and daunting task... And you are more of a virtuoso than I thought you were (considering you so far concentrated on the gentler sort of repertoire).

But despite the reservations, these are of course quality recordings from you again. I will put them up the site tomorrow unless Robert beats me to it.

I will not beat you on it Chris as I have a busy program which cover the entire evening.

I liked your recordings and enjoy the melancolique which is often present in Rachmaninov but as already mentioned, some more use of the dynamics would make it even better while I still consider your recordings as very good!

Very nice, Leonald. Your dynamics are fine to me. And your phrasing, technique, and the feeling you put into these pieces is equally fine.

Very, very well played! With lots of dynamics, expression and feeling, and also very clean played. Strong achievement!

    These are up the site.

I have given them a separate table because I expect (ok, hope...) that you will complete the set

Thanks Amitai, Chris, Robert, Monica, schön Dank Olaf for matter of fact comments.
Regarding the recordings then all of them are recorded on Estonia Grand 190 and the piano itself sounds wonderful like Estonia grand allways does...I assume the microphones are too close to strings: that might have caused the unnatural sound and bad dynamic amplitude. I will try to find proper positions for microphones and accordingly to that the right settings for the recorder.
Oh, yes ... and in my opinion Rachmaninov has no week opuses. And the separate table will definitely make me learn the rest 3 pieces of this opus!

Chris, please, check the sheets added, no. 5 is correct, instead of the other ones the Melody and the Prelude in C sharp minor are poked.

True. But there are some diferences in quality.

    Hehe.. it worked :D

That must have been wrong already in the first table, of the same 3 pieces, which I just copied. Perhaps Robert can check this, he does the sheets.

Agreed. No one ever suffered listening to well-played Rachmaninov. :)
