Rachmaninoff's Transcription of Bach's Partita in E BWV 1006

I didn't know this wonderful transcription until yesterday and I found the score in the list on IMSLP, but it is still blocked (It said to be pending...)

Is there anybody who could send me the score or inform me of any other free score sites or any possibility to buy only the score of this suite? (I've also found some score books of Rach's transcriptions, but I bet I would not give a look on other pieces.)

And is there anybody who can tell me how difficult this transcription is to play? (According to all experiences of mine, I'm really incapable to estimate the difficulty grade of a piece, until I work with it at least three months :roll: )

Did you work on this transcription? (And have you posted any recording of yours already on AR or not yet? Since you wrote about your plan to buy an Edirol, I'm waiting for that!)

 

Well, I don't have a job any more, so no recording equipment for me and no, I've never worked on this transcription. I figure I have enough work to do on Bach's keyboard works without worrying about transcriptions of violin stuff. :lol: In any case, I'm not a very proficient pianist, so if I ever do get equipment I probably won't contribute much - just the easier stuff that I'm extremely happy with.

 

What a pity! I'd like to hear the sound of the new Steinway in your school, which you once described in detail...

:lol: I suppose that you as a piano student have a lot to practice. Well, it's a sort of advantage of a pure amateur like me that one can try on every piece at any time.

It is pretty hard indeed, though not in the usual Rachmaninov way. Very exacting, like real Bach requiring great finger independence, but more complex. It is very much worth the effort though, and certainly not too difficult for someone who can play Scriabin. Go for it !

I am not usually a great fan of Bach transcriptions but this one is gorgeous. I believe R. was one of the best transcribers of all times - think of the Midsummernight Dream and Arlesienne Menuet, and the Kreisler Liebesleid and Liebesfreud transcriptions.

 

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply and the encouragement. Thanks to Terez I got the score already and began to work on it. The structure of this transcription is so complex, indeed, that after two hours on the first piece I got a headache :?
Anyway I love the Partitas for solo violin so much (much more than those for the keyboard... Maybe this taste was caused by my unexperiencedness with Bach. What do you think about that?), that I'm very happy to find this transcription (Because Bach-Busoni-Chaconne is still unapproachable to me :wink: ).

 

Hi, glad to see you back to music Hye-Jin. I've recently skimmed over that transcription and the Prelude is by far more difficult than Gavotte and Gigue. For once in Rachmaninov there are not big chords, the main difficulties coming from hand crossing and hands often working in a restricted space, but since you have small paws ( :lol: ), you should be able to overcome easily those troubles. Happy studying, Hye-Jin, and I look forward to listening to it soon - I love very much every kind of Bach transcription.

 

Hi Alf, Merry Christmas (The Christmas day has just begun)!!
It is a great relief for me to hear that the Preludio is the most difficult one among them, because I didn't touch the last two yet. And as you said, I think that with my small "paws" I need only enough time to play the preludio well :wink: (For the big chords the time doesn't help, when you are already an adult :lol: )
The first learning-phase of the Preludio in the last three days was just fascinating, I must say! I was fascinated at first by the endless imagination of Rachmaninov and secondly by the inscrutable depth hidden behind such a simple melody played by solo violin.

 

I would love to learn to perform the Rachmaninoff piano transcription of J. S. Bach's Partita BWV 1006 in E Major (just the Preludio section). Could someone scan the score to me at ddb233@gmail.com? The transcription has been impossible to locate until I found this thread. Thank you for your help!
