Have any of you heard this? It's supposed to be the composer playing his G Minor Prelude. I wonder if it really is Rachmaninoff? What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjcAXvnW ... ed&search=
Go to classic.chubrik.ru and download the recording there that is supposed to be Rachmaninov. Compare the two recordings and you'll see they are completely different. I believe the recording on that Russian site is real. So the one on YouTube is either faked or it's a piano roll that is played too slowly.
I have this CD. Quaility is not the best but you can definately tell its him. The clarity in his voicings is unmatched.
His virtuosity is probably unmatched (even better than Horowitz, Cziffra, etc. IMO). He is undoubtly one of the, if not the best pianist of the 20th century.
I don´t think it´s Rachmaninoff. I have a recording from May 17 1920 with him and this Prelude and it´s much faster but more clear and typically unromantic like Rachmaninoff played his own pieces. For me it´s a bit too sweet played like Horowitz ore somebody who tried to copy some passages of Rachmaninoff but on other passages it´s not Rachmaninoff like. Markus Brylka
