    ...but here goes nothing! :lol:

    If a piece of music has a pickup measure, do you number the pickup measure as "Measure 1" or do you begin with the first full measure as "Measure 1"?

    I wish that the scholars could agree on first and second endings, and how to count them. I have some anthologies that count them separately and some that don't.

    I don't know if there are well established best practices here. What I know is that Henle and Wiener-Urtext, for example, usually count only the second ending bars. EMB Urtext of Beethoven Sonatas, on the contrary, count every single bar of both first and second endings.

    Yes, the pickup measure is not counted but the last measure is.
