Playing the grand polonaise brillante

hi,i really want anyone who played this piece to tell me how much time they took and how they work it.

 

I listened to a recording of this piece and by the sound of it, its hard.

 

took me few months about four years ago. i never really mastered it (there is an embarassing recording i have with my high school orchestra). I guess practicing it slowly and getting really good fingerings is key.
