Since this in an international forum, I'm wondering if anyone here is planning to watch the olympics. I love to watch the opening ceremonies, so tonight at 8:00 you know that I'll be watching tv. And isn't that neat about the 8-8-08 at 8:08 thing? I love that kind of stuff. Good luck to all of your countries, but I hope USA wins! :p

So...did anyone watch the opening ceremonies? I did - very nice, but very long, too. Took around four hours. And as of yesterday, USA was ahead in the medal count. Not today, though. China has taken the lead. Oh well...

what I don't like about watching the Olympics here in the US is that if the US is not participating, then it is poorly covered; but if the US is a part of the game, then there is pomp and circumstance and dramatic music, monologue, and theatric editing.

The coverage here on our networks is something like 10 US-participating games to 3 non-US participating games.

And not all the games are televised.

    Bias?

Of course there is bias. I'm sure television programming is the same in other countries too. Maybe one of those "just sports" channels covers everything, though. I don't know... Admittedly, I don't watch much of the Olympics - just the parts that get hyped up in the news prior to the event, and I like the monologue and theatrics. Makes things more interesting when you know a little story about the athletes.

I think it is over-dramatized. The life of the athelete and the safety of the world does not hinge on the outcome of a 100m breast stroke.

Anything in excess has the reverse effect. My opinion. :D

Ok, well...whatever. Then do like me the next couple of nights and instead of watching the Olympics, go outside and look for shooting stars. It's time for the Perseids meteor shower. :)
