In the attached file you will find a recording that I performed live at the faculty concert on August 21st, 2008 at the Boston International Music Festival "Youth & Muse", Seully Hall, Boston. The name of the piece is Toccata (1957) written by the renown Bulgarian composer Vassil Kazandjiev (b.1934). I played the Toccata for him about a week or two before the performance on 08.21.08. It was the first time when I had the opportunity to learn a classical piece and actually meet with the composer. I used to play a lot of traditional repertoire but in the past 2 years I started to pay a lot of attention at some contemporary works. I hope that you will enjoy the Bulgarian piece by Vassil Kazandjiev.

    Thank you for listening.

    Warm wishes:

    Tania

A splendid performance of this Toccata. Listened to it twice now and it is easy to appreciate the composer's music. I know very little of him and this kind of caught my interest.

You mentioned something about his home page in our email conversation and that there were recordings available from it. But I fail to find it. can you Tania or someone else direct me?

    Greetings Tania

My name is Avguste and similar to you,I am also born in Bulgaria. As a matter of fact,I was born in Plovdiv and my mom was cellist for the Plovdiv Symphony under Petkov

As a fellow pianist and being born in the same country,I would like to welcome to the Piano Society and thank you for posting this recording.

Obviously,I am not familiar with this composer, however I have to say the piece sounds great and seems fun to play.
You play very well and from what I hear, you interpret the piece very well.

Similar to Robert,I would love to see the composer's website

Splendid performance of what sounds like a demanding piece. I believe all toccata's are demanding which is a shame as I usually like this genre but don't have the technique to master it.
This is a work that probably needs repeated hearing to appreciate.

I enjoyed that a lot. Kind of Gershwin-esque in places, it seemed to me.

Chris, isn't it part of the definition of a toccata that it should showcase the performer's virtuosity? So one could expect that they would tend to be hard ;)
