Me and Chris are searching for a new logotype for Piano Society and Chris came up with the splendid idea with a logotype contest. Very likely, we have some real artists at the site. So this is your chance . Just upload your creation into this topic and we will then create a poll for the best logotype. To better understand how this will be used, med and Chris are preparing to create a new site which will look more like the old Piano Society but take our time to make sure it get really right this time. The logotype will replace the temporary I have put up in the header of http://pianosociety.com/cms Free your mind and good luck!
I don't think there should be a deadline right now but perhaps a few words can be said about what we are looking for. To make efficient use of the screen, I think the image should be about 80 pixels high, not much more than that, and about 800 pixels wide (not wider, and preferably not too much narrower). More like a banner really. As far as I'm concerned, the style should be modern and bright, without being punky, avant-garde or high-tech, and the colours should be pleasing and coordinated, that is, no screaming primary or sickly sweet colors. The logo should include the words as shown in Robert's example, the font being simple and classical (no curly or fantasy fonts). The theme should include one or more musical images, of course with piano (and perhaps other keyboard instruments) being prominent. I hope that is not too restrictive for all you budding artists out there. :
new forum? new site? I like that but than all the topics and forums will be deleted like the last forum isn't it? it's a pitty
The forum will stay, but the composers and pianists will move to a proper site once again (a bit like the one we had). The forum will probably change appearance, but that is just cosmetic.
Will the forum be on the main page (as now) or on a seperate page (as before, like www.pianosociety.com/forum)? Do we have to re-register? What new functions will be added to the new site? Will we have a chatroom again? Just some questions.
There will be separate addresses for site and forum, as before. The URL of the forum will change but you will not have to re-register. Only things that will change about the forum: 1) We may install a different skin (theme) because this one is not very efficient. 2) Pianists and composers will move out to a 'proper' website. No chatroom. We had one for quite long time and nobody ever used it. Chatrooms are great for school kids or people who have nothing better to do. If you want to talk to someone, use MSN or Skype or whatever.
I am no computer graphics expert and had to have my son tell and show me how to change pixels. (His exact words were, "Jeez, Mom. Don't you know how to do anything?) I'm not sure I will even try to submit a logo, but if I get this computer program thing figured out, do you mean that a banner will go all the way across the top of a web page, or half-way like Robert's example?[/quote]
Well, at present we are only using the top part of the screen for the logo. So we might as well make it wider, and I think 800 pixels will be a nice width. Or perhaps even wider so that it will fill the whole top part. But definitely not higher than 80 pixels or so. It is the idea that counts more at present, I guess it can always be resized.
