Need advice

Should a set of many short items be posted as individual tracks or as one single track ?

    Not sure about what you are trying to get, but as far AFAIK an M3U file is useless for indexing one single MP3 file. A M3U file is just a text file that contains a playlist of already existing MP3 files. If you want to index an MP3 file you have to create a CUE file, as explained (for example) here. Sorry if you already know this. ;-)

    Yes I know a m3u/playlist is something different than an indexed mp3. That is only common sense anyway. An indexed mp3 would probably be better than a playlist (save for the fact people can't download an indivual track, I guess) so I'll check up on that mechanism and the link you gave. Thanks.

    if you consider the point of view of a beguinner who starts playing his For Children and would like to listen to the recording on PS, and he should look for it in a 36 minutes long file and extract it with Audacity, well that seems quite tricky... on the other hand, i myself didn't download Chris' recording when it was available only as many short single files (and it would be easy, for instance with Flashget :)...so, my vote goes to "both ways" (one for the player, the other for the lazy listener :)
