    Ok....I 'wish' it were mine!!

I played at my local piano meetup yesterday where we are very fortunate to play on a beautiful 7-foot Fazioli. I just love that piano!! This time I brought my little recorder along so that I could hear what the piano sounds like on a recording. I played three pieces but just cut out one here on this file. It's Godowsky's "Alt Wien"....one of my favorites. Of course, as usual my performance yesterday wasn't so great...had a major mental block at the end. So this recording will not be going on the site. I'm just putting it up here in case anyone is interested in hearing a different piano. I did not edit the sound at all...no effects whatsoever. I also had the input level set too high on the recorder and so there is some clipping. Oh well....maybe next time I can get a better recording.

Very nice sound, though I think you need a little bit of experiment time to think about the pedal usage. Audacity, from about version 2.0, has a clip fix utility that might be useful, probably depends on the level of the clipping though.

I'm not sure what you mean about pedal usage. Godowsky was very meticulous with markings. I just followed them.
My editing program has a clip reduction feature as well. I just didn't mess around with it here, because this recording is just for fun.

There was something that bugged me about the recording and I couldn't quite put my finger on it until now. It's the upper middle treble, eg around 0.15 and from 2.08-2.10. I don't think it's quite in tune.

    Hi Monica,

Brace yourself. I like your Yamaha better! :)

As for pedaling, I look at it as given by the composers, but more often than not, ignore it. The composer cannot possibly anticipate every piano's idiosyncracies. Likewise the composer cannot foresee the particular venue--living room, concert hall, etc. Given that, I choose my own pedaling and always try to pedal for clarity.

    Monica,

I think that this was lovely, no matter what anyone says. I would certainly not say no if anyone decided to put that piano in my living room (or any other decent grand).
