I'm making a list of classical music everyone has heard, from cartoons to commercials to movies and such to aid me in teaching a music class (If I ever find myself in such a situation), to help get my friends into the scene, etc. I named this list "Music You Thought You Didn't Know" and I started this list about a year ago, and stopped working on it. Now again I've started, and I've decided to post a youtube link under each piece to listen, as well as the date of birth and death of the composer, but I noticed I have one piece by Telemann, Tafelmusic. There are several of Tafelmusic and I wanted to consult all of you to see if you could help me find that one song that's so popular, everyone has heard it. Thank you my friends, I much appreciate it. Here's the list! I'd really appreciate it if any of you connoisseurs could give me a hand if I have any mistakes, or I'm missing a song or two... Or three, or four, or five so on and so forth. Sorry, it came out a little screwy since you can't see the bold letters of Italic letters. If there's time next to the link, it's for reference of where the most popular portion of the piece is in the video. Ok, I'll take of your other post right after this. btw - now that I think about it, I'm not sure I actually ever have heard that Chopin prelude in film. It's sort of playing in my head all the time (  )so that's why it came to me. But I did just think of another one that I know I have heard in movies and commercials. Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries'. That one's always in my head too....
I already have that one there, but I owe you one, I accidentally wrote the name of the conductor of the Orchestra rather than "Ride of the Valkyries" I corrected it though!
Rachmaninoff -- Prelude C#Minor this was heard in the movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" (The actual clip lasts until the voice over-- about 42 seconds--, the rest of the composition is just an odd on with other snipits from the film) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_ClutS5hQ4
I'd add the "Gran Vals" by Spanish composer Francisco Tárrega. Who hasn't heard this one these days??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-0fn8t5AMI
That was really nice, Marcelo. But it's not being played in my little world because I don't know it. So what gives?
Yes, I think we still have Nokia phones around here. I guess you're saying that the Terraga piece is on all Nokia phones? My first cell phone was a Nokia - looked like a big brick. But I just bought a new phone a couple weeks ago - it's a Samsung. And my ringtone is Beethoven's "Ode to Joy".
The same link! The "Nokia Tune" can be heard at 0:13 and 2:31 !!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-0fn8t5AMI
You should put up the second movement of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto. Both Eric Carmen and Celine Dion have sang a song adapted to it (All by Myself). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWRb90BRB5w Just a suggestion. Great list! I really enjoyed going through listening to them all. Edit: Oh, and maybe Liszt's Liebestraume No. 3.
Does The Truman Show count? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blYmQdhvnuU Chopin e minor concerto, mvt. 2, Romance I think there was some more stuff from the concertos in that movie, but I can't find anything. I've only seen it once, and it was about 10 years ago.
Oh, and I forgot: Chopin's Fantasie-Impromptu, only the lyrical bit, was adapted into a song called "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt87z8Yt ... re=related The actual Chopin piece, brought to you by Horowitz (relevant passage beginning at 1:02): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x93pwAvUkAA That recording is one of the nicer Horowitz ones I've heard. Also, some Bach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__lCZeePG48 Everybody knows that one.
Number 2 of Ligeti's Musica Ricercata was used in the film "Eyes Wide Shut." I haven't seen the film, but I've had people come up to me after recitals and tell me they were surprised to recognise the music.
