One of my 'groups' on Facebook just notified me that two pieces originally thought to be written by Leopold Mozart are in fact written by Wolfgang. They will be played in Salzburg, Austria this Sunday and premiered on US radio on 'my' classical station, which is WFMT - Chicago. The time on Sunday is at 3:00 PM and for those of you outside of the listening area, WFMT also streams on the internet. Pretty exciting, isn't it?! :)

    Did you catch it, J?

Wow - I am stunned! That Mozart - what a kid!! Supposedly, these two pieces were written when he was only 7 or 8 years old. They sounded pretty hard. Wow again!!

Yes M, I caught it. Sounds good to me. I am quite surprised too. It would probably sound much easier if you had a bottle or two of port pumping in the veins

Bottle? One glass of port is all I need.

I'm glad you heard that too, J. And you know, yesterday I drove all the way into the city to see the movie, "In Search of Mozart". Well, I first stopped in an outdoor cafe, had a drink, wandered around Millennium Park, and then walked over to the theater. But turns out that I was too late. They sold out of tickets just 20 minutes before I got there, so I did not get to see the movie. I was so disappointed! Except...my son just got it on his computer, and now I have it! So I get to watch it whenever I want to. :D

Well, I just got done watching that movie. Again, like the Beethoven movie, I learned some things about Mozart that I did not know (for one thing - he was blond - like me! haha) And now I feel a need to play Mozart - something happy and sad at the same time. Not sure what, yet. Probably should check on the site and see what we've got so far...

The popular fantasy in D starts off incredibly sad but ends up in a major key (happy)!

Supposedly there is a German movie about the life of Schubert but I cant seem to find it and I dont want to pay an arm for it on Amazon.de ...*sigh* someday.

Yes - I've always liked that one. Good suggestion.

Whoa, hold your horses. Let me get your stool.

    "Notturno"

Here is some guy's attempt at a movie trailer paired with schubert's popular compositions:

And here is the Amazon.de link (though I am not sure if DVDs out of the States will work with our DVD players. As I recall VHS tapes purchased outside the US would not work with our VHS players. But that is old technology, it could have changed)

"Notturno" Oh, that looks like the perfect movie for me! I'll do some digging around and tell you if I come up with it.

Mozart never finished that Fantasy, so we don't know what the ending would have been like. The current ending is not by Mozart. A fugue would probably have followed the fantasy, as in the K.394.

I meant comedian's stool as in a chair without back support or arm rests. Duh.

Alf: I did not know that. Perhaps you should finish it

All you need to do is take the last two notes and play them an octave higher than originally written, then bask in the glory and be hailed as "Mozart incarnate" :p
