I would like to replace the previous recording I have of this. It's been classified in the http://www.pianosociety.com/pages/liszt_transcriptions/ section.

I've uploaded a new version (from a recent recital) which I think is significantly tidier. I think it should have the same filename as the version already on the server.

In any case, here's hoping people enjoy the recording! If anyone is still here... ;)

    Hello Andrew,
I haven't yet listened your recording - I'm sure it should be of the same quality as usual - but I have replaced the old link by this one. Could you please check it works properly ?
    Regards,
    François

I've just listened it. Impressive and very convincing ! You deserved more people to applause !
By the way, since I see you are fond of Liszt transcriptions, have you already tried those of Beethoven's symphonies ? I have tried some of them, but it is often beyond my technical abilities, unfortunately. When properly played, they really make the piano sounding as an orchestra.

Thanks - I had an ok turnout for my audience, but it would be nice to play to hundreds rather than dozens ;)

I've not spent much time with the symphony transcriptions, as I've directed myself very much towards operatic paraphrases. But the Katsaris recordings are amazing!

Katsaris is great. I even prefer Konstantin Cherbakov, a not so well-known (at least in France) Russian pianest who recorded an incredible integral of the 9 symphonies for Naxos.

I must confess I wasn't impressed by the opening (but as well I'm not sure how it should be rendered, maybe I'd try the octaves more dry, crescendo, and save a full pedalling for the bass chords so to have more contrast).

Anyway, after the introducing chords, came a well played, clear Liszt.

    Thanks for sharing!

I'm not especially convinced by the opening either. I tend to find it a bit "bald" and with a tendency to be disconnected from what follows. I'm much more comfortable once the piece really gets started, and perhaps my performance reflects that. It was also the opening bars of the recital! Nevertheless I do accept perhaps it could do with more thought. Thanks for your comments.
