Two earlier pieces Op.9 (Waltz and Mazurka) by Anatoly Liadov. Even though he rather mimics Chopin and Balakirev, among others, I think these are two splendid and irresistable pieces. Recorded live today at the Pianola Museum in Amsterdam. Not as good as I hoped they would be, but perhaps you'll like them anyway.

Moved these to the Liadov page on

Nices pieces and well done, too.

I like the manner that you slow down a bit on the end of a melody phrase on those romantic (well, very late romantic?) pieces.

Can't comment more on it, but it is great that you play pieces beside the mainstream so to broaden the horizon for people like me who don't know something about Liadov's music.

Well I am on a Holy Mission to spearhead a Liadov revival. A year from now, you'll all be begging for mercy, yelling "Puhleeeeeze.... no more Liadov !"

Like MindenBlues, I too am unfamiliar with Liadov. But these were two wonderful little gems (and well played) Keep to your Holy Mission. It's great there's a site like this where people can learn so much about piano music.

I'm glad you appreciate this unfamiliar stuff. Liadov may not have been a staggering talent like many of his contemporary collegues but I think his piano oeuvre is one of the finest and most consistent in the Russian repertoire. More to come, definitely.
