One more from the archives, same concert as the Chopin. The performance is not entirely satisfactory, not least because of a memory slip near the end (which I somehow managed despite not playing from memory!!), but I really enjoyed learning this work and will probably learn the rest of the suite ... one day.

    Hi Jonathan,

Sarnia is a difficult suite to play. "Song of the Spring Tides" is the most colorful in my opinion. To my ears this piece borders on impressionism -- the splashes of water as the tide surges in. Another thing I like about this music is that it's Late Romantic style. There are times when this music is very lush. Your memory slip is not even noticeable. Overall I think this is a fine performance also affirmed by the strong applause. Thank you for sharing your music with us.

    Hi Jonathan,
that´s an overall nice and decent recording with an acceptable sound-quality. You play it musically and expressively. Read my lines concerning your membership here in your Debussy thread, please.

Thank you! I've always loved this piece but had been intimidated by the technical challenge, so it was a real delight to perform it in public at last.

I don't know the piece, but it sounds like it has tricky spots. To my ears, your rendition is convincing and you get some interesting sounds out of the piano (almost jazzy in places).

Thanks Andrew. The tricky parts for me were keeping an even tone in the first section and keeping the accuracy up in the surges in the last part. The slow part in the middle just 'clicked' for me though - maybe that was where you heard interesting sounds? J.
