how do you record?

I really want to record. I can with my minidisc but the software doens't work and I can't get my recordings on my computer.

my question:

how do you record and what are youre tips with buying some stuff to record with?

I recorded rachmaninoff's prelude in Cis op.2 no.3
and my own gladiator transcription,
my own etude on the famous liszt liebestraum
and a ABA piece of myself (don't have a name for it)


I realy want to share it But I can't because my minidisc software doesn't wurk :twisted: :twisted:

 

Sheesh, minidisc, does that still exist ! I doubt there is much experience with it around here.
Why don't you go to a place like www.minidisc.org for some assistance ? And get some software that DOES work ?

I recently bought an Edirol R09 which recordings directly mp3 (128-320 kpbs) or wav (22-48 kHz). Very easy to use and resonable good sound for the money. About $400 in Sweden. I afterwards process the sound with Audacity which is open source and works pretty well.

 

I use an Edirol as well, but an older model than Robert has. It's a good device but quite expensive. Records directly to mp3 or wav, and you can copy-paste them directly onto the PC via an USB cable or flash card reader. Some postprocessing for adding reverb, splicing tracks, and remove pops and clicks, using CoolEdit.

 

Sometimes I wish I had an Edirol too. If I like to record a performance for friends e.g.
I would not like to place large microphone stands, starting a PC and so on. Makes me more fussed as I am anyway on such occasions.

However, with nearly same price one get recordings with higher quality, here is what I use:
- a pair of cheap large diaphragma condenser mics (Thomann SC-450, 180 Euro together)
- a small mixer for providing the phantom power ((50 Euro)
- an external sound blaster card with USB connection 96kHz/24 bit (100 Euro? I don't know)
Ok, and you need an PC one has anyway, e.g. CoolEdit to add reverb / normalize / change output format for mp3 and so on. And microphone stands for holding the mics.

The effort for putting the stuff is high, but the result is better. In all Edirol recordings here I hear more or less pretty much noise. And the stereo effect is also not that good. With good mic placements (one on the bass strings, one on the treble strings) one can mix the balance at the end too.

So the result is higher quality, with nearly same price regarding Edirol with above equipement.
Nevertheless, I think I need that handy Edirol as well...

 

I record with 1 mic. I putt im with the lower strings and it records everything te same strenght!
