Hello maestros! I am teaching myself Chopin's C minor nocturne opus posthumous. My score has fingering notation that I can't quite figure out. On some of the arpeggios there is fingering notation that is written as a fraction. I don't think the keys exist to give you an example of it here. I suspect that you know what I'm talking about, a 2 written over a dash with a 3 underneath it, for instance. I'm thinking that it meant player's choice, or perhaps it means that if you use the top finger indicated for one note use the top finger indicated for the subsequent note....??? This is probably a laughably elementary question for this forum but I really could use the help. Thanks!
I see what you are talking about in bar 18 and then later on in a couple similar bars. You are correct that it is merely an option of fingerings; you would use either both top number/fingers for the two notes, or both bottom fingers. The bottom fingering works best for me - 3rd finger on the D and the thumb on the A-flat. Best wishes on learning this piece.
Thanks Monica. It's your lovely interpretation that has inspired me to tackle this piece by the way. Happy New Year!
Hi Mike and thank you! I have sent you a couple messages on Youtube (I think you are the same person), but I have problems with my channel and so I'm not sure if you received them.
