    Hello everyone,

Have you got a favourite time to play or practise piano?
I like to practise piano early in the morning and midday (and sometimes at night). And I like to play piano in the evening or at night :). Are there any more people who like playing/practising piano at night? Or am I the only one? :?

No, you are not the only one. I practice every morning, which is usually serious practicing. I also practice at night, but it's more playing just for pleasure, like letting my hair down and enjoying the connection between the physical and the emotional aspect of music. I love playing at night.

I feel compelled to play after a lesson or recital or group meetings (every six weeks my former piano teacher holds an adult playing group, all his adult students get together at someone's house and play a piece fitting a theme)

Or....here is the big one....after I touch an extremely expensive piano!

My three favorite times are morning, noon and night.

Kidding aside, each time of day has its quirks, early morning is a time to be as pure as possible in one's technique (I'm not even sure what that means but it works for me). Afternoon is a great time to play as fast as my fingers want to go. Evening (when all the neighbors are home and trying to chill out) is the perfect time to make the piano purr like a kitten.

Bach for breakfast, Liszt for lunch and Chopin for dinner.

    C'mon, stick with the alliteration!

    Bach for breakfast

    Liszt for lunch

    Dvork for dinner

    Chopin for "Sch"nack

Man, I wish I had time to practice. Stupid high school teachers and their stupid assignments...

I guess if I have time to practice I do it at night. Not like 1:00 AM, but like 7:00 PM. And I'm pretty guilty of not practicing my lesson and being distracted by all of the music I have  .

Dvorak's too much for dinner. How about Debussy for dinner? Or Schubert for supper?

What is a schnack? And don't say snack. No way can Chopin be reduced to something trivial like that. Dessert to me is something sweet with chocolate and whipped cream. Makes you lick your lips, and soooo delicious that it is sinister.

Julius, do you have any trouble logging on at around 8:00 or 8:30 at night?

Usually I start to feel a bit tired around 22:00. I often end up sitting on a chair in front of my piano, rather than lying in bed. I then play til about 24:00, but I've had days where I'd stop playing at 1:30 AM.

    Clavinova + headphones ftw.

I tend to play a lot at night. Typically I practice every night from 10:00 PM until 3:30 AM. Then I sleep until 5:30, and then get up to get ready for school around 6:00.

I've learned to live without sleep at night.

Sleeping through Astronomy class isn't hard to get away with. I also like to sleep at lunch. It works sometimes.

Energy drinks also help. Although, one day I had 3 Jolts in a row  , and I actually started shaking. My heart rate shot through the roof, and I felt sick.

    Gross... :(

    But I digress...

Try playing a nocturne at night (what a novel idea!)... it's fun. I wrote a nocturne around a month ago. I play it every night around midnight and it really gets the feeling across. When I play it during the day... it doesn't sound right.

But life without sleep is fun. You should all try it! 8) (And yes... that little emoticon is also saying "it's cool to wear sunglasses at night.")
