Hello, Here' s a recent video of me playing Liszt Transcendental Study no. 10 on an old piano. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eH1aO0-IPU The video and audio are not of the best quality, but I hope you' ll enjoy it. Any comment will be apprecated.
On my PC there is an obvious issue about the sound... Don't know whether it come from your recording or from my PC. But I never encountered a so.... strange sound on Youtube. What is this old piano?
The sound issue that you encountered is from the recording, not from your PC nor specialy from youtube either. It' s due to the proximity of the camera used to record and the piano itself I suppose, and you can also notice a difference between the sound and the image of 1 second. The piano is an old one that I bought from a private individual. I' m not a specialist at piano manufacture but I can say that the brand is a Faines & co if I' m not mistaken, it' s a straight piano with two pedals, the usual middle one is not on this model, and the the frames are all in wood, I can' t tell anything detailed about the keybord, but the material and the touch is not the same as a more modern piano, so the sound is. I was not used to the sound, and sense it strange first of all, but still it has a different "voice" than a Yamaha. I have a record of the same piece played the same day on my Yamaha, I uploaded it, you can make a comparison. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8tYeQVZ8Yc
While I cannot comment much on your playing, I can say that your location of the camera is not optimal. You need to move the camera back much farther because every note over mezzo forte is clipped due to the camera being placed so close.
sorry, but I did not enjoy either of these videos and shut them off after about ten seconds. The sound is awful - way too much distortion!
It is impossible to listen to this for more than 20 seconds withough going crazy. So I gave up after 15 seconds. There is really no point in putting this on the web, with sound this bad nobody is going to comment on your playing - it can barely be heard. The Yamaha version sounds only marginally less awful.
Sorry about this disagrement, I tried everything but my recording devices can't do better. Even putting the the camera or the mp3 player which use for recording far away , the sound is sure better, but still goes overdriven if too forte. I' ll try to post something more suitable as I' ll be able to.
Ok. Do make sure you play all the notes though.... It was very hard to hear any of this, but it seemed to me that certain passages were not very accurate. A piece like this is not to be underestimated, and you may want to practice slowly and deliberately to get everything in place.
