    It's a stretch but:

    elaborate: "add detail"

Pianolady said: btw - you know, you don't have to play every ornament you see on the page. From what I understand, Bach did not write in all the ornaments and have been added in by editors...Maybe our other "Bach" people here can elaborate (or correct me).

Ornaments are musical flourishes that are not necessary to carry the overall line of the melody.

    Again, a stretchuva pun.

I see. It's a stretch indeed, but the pun is there.

I didn't get it, though, because my intellect is not that dilated! ;-)

Ornamentation is a matter of style and taste, more than what's actually written. Most or all baroque players add ornamentations of their own, as baroque players have always been expected to do. And of course editors and copyists had their go, too. I like throwing in the odd extra trill, turn, or mordant when I get the chance. It lightens things up a bit, but should not be overdone (as some performers do, especially in French harpsichord music).

    Now here's a nice pun:

Visitor to organist: Is the organ baroque ?
Organist: No, it's in perfect working order.

It was a very weak pun. "Pull" is to extend or to dialate; among many other definitions.
