Someone obviously didn't like my trick where you must take a ticket before downloading music and launched a Denial-of-Service attack against the site. Good enough, my profession is computer security so I have taken actions against it. Sorry for the downtime.

Uh oh - I think that happened just as I was on the site about to listen to myself. Just when I clicked on me, it went dead. ( no jokes about sounding so terrible that I killed the site  - unless I really did? )

That's pretty sad. I guess some people have too much time on their hands.

We can also have a giggle at someone who thought they could get the best of you.

    So it was you! 8)

No, it was someone loading the MySQL database with huge quires using PHP but I am not sure how he/she did it.

Well done. I've seen the statistics stopped at the 5th of the month (as happened in august also).
There are many possibilities, among them:
    1) the fifth is a diabolic day
    2) too many download of CoccoBill LvB variations and the system went over

    All best,
    Sandro

Hehe, or a C-program cannot open files more than 2 GB. ;)

I'll have Chris write a shell script instead using bzcat on bzipped-files.

Or perhaps I should write a wrapper which once a day cleans up the access_log from useless information. It would shrink the log about 10 times.

Hear hear ... I won't let you torture me like that :p

I'm not even going to try and do this stuff from a shell script. You have no idea of the amount of
sorting and processing going on within stats. It would probably hang the system when attempted
from a script. Maybe I'll have a go at coding it in Java (assuming it does not have the 2GB restriction, which I am not sure about).

That would help. Obviously stats only needs the lines that pertain to audio files.

But surely Apache must have some way of customizing the access log contents ?

    :)

I am sure Apache has that but I think it would be easier for me to implement a wrapper than try to fool around with Apache.
