Greetings to all. For my first posting I thought I'd share this recording. You don't appear to have this prelude yet. Best regards. Debussy - Preludes Book I. no.11, La danse de Puck
I cannot comment on the piece because like with all of Debussy, Ravel, etc. I never heard any of them. However, I can comment on the recording quality. The piano sounds great but there might be a little bit too much reverb. It sounds like the piano was between 10 and 20 feet away. Now don't get me wrong I do no tlike the microphones to be right next to the strings. Where did you place the microphone(s)/recorder? Was the reverb added during the recording? Or after the recording in some program? Or is this natural reverb? Welcome to the site. The bosses who run this show will be able to critique your work with more scrutiny than I have. But I can confidently say that you are on your way to having your spot in the society  All the best, -jg
It is a very good interpretation, both from a musical and technicals aspect. When it comes to the sounds, it feels like this is a live take where someone from the audience is recording your playing and this is probably the cause why is sounds so remote. Correct? I would very much like to include you and this recording on the site and if you post your biography in this topic, I will put you up along with the Debussy prelude.
Indeed, a spendid performance ! But very flat in dynamics, it seems. I guess that may be largely due to the recording. It is rather distant, but still a better quality than one would expect from a chance recording from the audience. What was the recording setup and equipment.
Thanks for your comments. The reverb is natural, not added later. The decision to record was on the spur of the moment, so I put a minidisc recorder on the first row of seats with an extremely ordinary stereo omni mic plugged into it. I am aware that this is very much a non-ideal set up! Probably about 20 feet away in a large hall, so I think you're all correct. Piano was a Yamaha C7. I'd like to record and share more pieces in the future, with far more attention to recording quality. I've been listening to the Piano Society for a number of years and wanted to make my own small contribution. I found this mp3 on my hard drive and hoped it was probably just about good enough to get me started on the site and encourage me to add to it. Thanks for listening! (profile on its way)
Peter has now provided me the biography and I have put it up along with your recording on the site. Welcome!
