Debussy - Etude No. 12 "Pour les accords"

    Dear All,
    I am pursuing my integral of Debussy's Etudes. This is the last one of book II (I will then continue with book I), and probably the most challenging, technically speaking, with many jumps (between the mid-part of the keyboard and the extreme parts, with the two hands at the same time...). Note the beautiful inner, dreamy section embedded between the first and last ones (the latter being a repetition of the former with some changes). I hope you like this recording in spite of its numerous flaws...

    Hi François, sorry to come late to the party! I'm not used to hearing the outer sections played so ... bouncily :) but it works really well. I guess, as an étude, the goal must be to make it sound easy, and that is not easy to do! Still you have a wonderful way with Debussy and I look forward to your book 1.

    Hello Jonathan,
    Thank you for your kind word. Not sure to understand what you mean by 'bouncily'. Is it a matter of tempo ? Mine is quite slow with regard to some professional versions, as the legendary Gieseking's one. This is not for aesthetical choice but more because of my technical limits...

    Hi François - I think it's a question of three beats to the bar versus one; speed has something to do with this but not everything. If you manage to increase the tempo in the future, I will be interested to hear what happens to this impression.

    Hence the piece is written in 3/8, but the accentuated beat is not always on the first one, providing a shift effect. I think I am following the score indications, as does Gieseking (although I'm not asking to be compared with him, of course). I am using few pedalling, and I play this beginning in a quite dry mood. Perhaps it is why you find it bouncy ?

    I have always liked Debussy. Sounds like an interesting piece! I need to start seriously practicing again so I can have something really worked up.
