Hello, Just to add an interesting clip of Cziffra` warming up at the BBC..... Chopin 10/1 won` t be to everyone` s taste, still, it is hugely entertaining... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf2accwGEaU Enjoy! Kind regards, Doxy www.myspace.com/doriangrinerpianist
I know I will insult a lot of people by saying this, but, I really don't see Cziffra as amongst the greatest pianists of the world. Sure he was talented, but I feel that most of his music was just showing off, nothing more nothing less.
I agree, Juuf. (He was really good at showing off!) In his own words, he became famous for playing, "Liszt, Liszt et encore Liszt." I love that clip, Doxy. Thanks! Pete
Technically brilliant and one of the fastest ever but his musical interpretations are often different and in his own style. He was a showman and that was probably the driving factor for him but he could played in a sensitive way too. For example listen to his Mozart which is really good.
You know, he had a bit of 25/10 in there at the beginning, and a bit of 10/12 in the middle, and I think there was a bit of Islamey mixed in throughout. When he got to the 10/1, it was of course very sloppy, but I don't think he was intending it to be performance-quality.
