    Hello,

I've decided to go back to taking lessons as a means of improving my playing technique. To that effort I have applied to the local musical conservatory, but since I've been gone so long, they required an audition. I have basically the program ready, however they do require a sonatina fast movement, and I am seeking suggestions on what to play.

    Thanks,

    Marcelo.

    Hi Marcelo,

Great that you'll be taking lessons again! As far as your fast Sonatina, try one of Clementi's. He has several that are fast.

I definitely second the Clementi. Spindler has some very nice sonatinas, too.

Kuhlau also has some interesting movements.

Last movement of Ravel's Sonatina ?
There is of course Alkan's Sonatina but that is a Sonata (and a big one at that) in all but name.

    Hello, Chris

After listening to the last movement of Ravel's sonatina I'm flattered to think you believe I'm capable of pulling it on short notice (the movement has to be ready by the 19th of feb.). But it is indeed a great piece and it is definitely on my "to do" list.

    :)

I did not consider that, to be honest. It just came to mind as this is ont of the most famous piano sonatines. There's also the Kapustin but that is a 1-movement work, and the Bartok sonatina, but that's very short if you should only play the first or lost mvt.
