I don't know how long this has been out there, but I just saw it today.

Some of these are quite uncanny I think. Especially the Shostakovich/Harry Potter, Debussy, and Faure.

(oh how weird...the radio station that I'm listening to at my desk right now is playing Shostakovich!)

Heck, Shostakovich IS Harry Potter

They (not sure who "they" is) do say that we all have a twin in this world. If your famous, people are more likely to look for that twin. I (not famous) did see mine once in Denver. Other people may comment on how much two people look alike, but you know it is your twin when you think you are seeing you yourself.

When I was in college, everybody told me I looked just like.....rats, I can't remember her name now. She was a country singer, played guitar and maybe even banjo -had her own television show like a variety show and had sisters that also sang. Maybe it'll come to me later...

Anyway, I know, that Shostakovich is a dead ringer for Harry Potter.

With some research one can always find one picture of someone and and another of someone else that look similar. Now, I can hear hoots of derision if I say I look like Gene Kelly, yet, there was one (not two, only one) picture of mine, taken many years ago and which is now in an old passport where I look just like Gene Kelly in one shot of maybe two seconds in An American in Paris.

Up to some years ago everytime I met a Dutchman (or woman - actually, in my field of work it is more like Dutchwomen- before someone calls the police - a language school) the first thing they said was not Hej or whatever Dutchwomen say when they meet non-Dutchmen) was "You look like Mr. Bean!" And then they added in haste: "But I love Mr. Bean!" You cannot immagine how many 18 years-olds have told me that one. :?

But I do have one better: a Shostakovich look-alike who sings in a filmed version of a Shostakovich operetta made while Shostakovich was alive:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=homFmDvX ... re=related

He comes in at around 7 minutes

Richard, can you dance like Gene Kelley?
Why don't you put up a side-by-side photo of yourself and Gene Kelley so we can see how it compares? That'd be fun!

And you are right - that really does look a lot like Shostakovich in that video! Or actually, that actor looks like Harry Potter.

I cannot find that picture. It must be in a cancelled passport at my former home.

And no: having broken my ankle earlier this year, I can no longer dance the way I did not dance before!

In your case were they thinking of Dolly Parton?

Quite fun that film: absurd, just the way Shostakovich liked things. But, had you not known it was Shostakovich, would you ever have guessed it?

    That's so funny!

No, my 'you-know-whats' are not nearly as large as hers. If they were, I'd be tipping over forward all the time!
I remembere now - it's another country singer by the name of Barbara Mandrell.

    Probably not.

If your "you-know-whats" were like Dolly Parton's, you would have a 6 octave reach.

hmmm....that is interesting. But also I'd hit a lot of extra keys in between the octave. No what I mean? Not sure I can explain. It's all that excess flab. Honestly, I know a lot of men like big 'you-know-whats', but I think they look like huge globs of fat. And watch out when age comes into play and they start sagging....

Ok, how are we going to get this back about composers, now? I'm at a loss.....

Now every time I hear Prokofiev, I'm going to imagine his face melting!

I didn't know what you meant at first. But now I went to that site again and see that they added a bunch more comparisons. Fun! That Puccini-Mercury one is neat too. Grieg is much cuter than Einstein, though... :)

I had noticed the Grieg Einstein one many many years ago, but then, it was using the same photographs.

Except for Shostakovich/Potter, I find these rather far-fetched. There's certain similarities in each case but I would not take Freddy Mercury for Puccini for example.

Just as I said above, Chris...

Now, have these look-alike geniouses not come up with Anton Rubinstein and Beethoven? People remarked during his liketime on the likeness and he even posed for photographs pretending to be Beethoven.

Could they have picked someone that looks less like Chopin? Hard to imagine...

(Also funny that they used one of the portraits that is very dubious.)

First you state the theory, then you find the facts to prove it.

haha, I know. That's how shady portraits usually go, sadly. I like the one Maria did, though. Especially since he had a cold, and she included his red nose.
